Fruugo expands its business into China and builds new local partnerships

CMC’s bespoke support and expert local knowledge helped global e-commerce platform Fruugo develop its business in China and build new relationships with vital local partners.

Fruugo is the UK’s largest cross-border e-commerce marketplace, helping sellers to market their products to customers in 46 countries in 28 languages. The business is growing fast thanks to the accelerating global trend towards online shopping.

Fruugo engaged CMC to support its expansion into the Chinese market, with the goal to establish a new operation in China by recruiting Chinese manufacturers and retailers onto its platform. As the company had no existing operation in China, we provided a package of fully bespoke support.

We conducted research to help Fruugo assess the size of the opportunity and establish clear objectives for initial marketing efforts. We fully localised Fruugo’s marketing materials into Chinese, partnered with the company to develop new materials targeted specifically at Chinese retailers, and supported initial tailored engagement with key prospects.

Working closely with Fruugo’s technology and payment services providers, we developed and delivered a programme of live interactive webinars targeting prospective sellers, improving the platform’s brand awareness and building credibility and trust with wary Chinese business owners. Thanks to CMC’s support, Fruugo’s entry into China has been a huge success. The company has gained an important foothold in the Chinese market and now employs its own local staff.
