Since 1997, the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) has been authorised to conduct the Statistical Survey on Internet Development in China, releasing the China Internet Users data “Report” twice yearly. – As of June 2023, China’s netizen population reached 1,079 million, up by 11.09 million from December 2022, with Internet penetration at 76.4%, an increase of 0.8 percentage points.

– By June 2023, mobile Internet users in China totaled 1,076 million, a rise of 11.09 million from December 2022, constituting 99.8% of China’s netizens.

– Urban Internet users numbered 777 million, comprising 72.1% of the national total, while rural Internet users totalled 301 million, representing 27.9%.
